Located at the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers, Belgrade has landscapes that you will want to explore for days. With a magnificent castle, an incredible food culture, several important churches and a nightlife that rivals the rest of Europe - and at the lowest prices - you will never feel like your time in Belgrade will be enough. But we know that most of us have limited vacation time, and maybe you only had 24 hours in Belgrade. If that's the case, here's the perfect mini itinerary to see the best of Belgrade.
🚗 Day 1 - 9 stops
1.Trpković Bakery
Serbia is famous for its spring rolls and flaky pastries. You would be greatly negligent if you miss the opportunity to try these delicacies while in Belgrade! You can find "pekara" (bakery) almost everywhere in Belgrade. That's why we recommend that you set out early, leave your hotel, and keep your eyes peeled for signs that say "пекара". (Oh, and by the way, did we mention that Belgrade uses the Cyrillic alphabet?) If you're vegan, you may want to skip the pastries because most are made with butter and are not vegan. Vegetarians can choose pastries with cheese (сир) or spinach (спанаћ). Bonus points if you're lucky enough to find our favorite, potato dumplings (кромпир) – because, you know, carbs need more carbs. Meat lovers can try the pastries with minced meat (месо), "pizza" (пица) or ham and cheese (шунка и сир). If you have a sweet tooth in the morning, peccaries also have delicious dessert options. If you want a really specific pekara recommendation, Trpković Bakery is considered one of the best in Belgrade (I've been there and it's really great!). It's also perfectly located to your next stop, Saint Sava Cathedral. The cathedral is just a 10-minute walk away.
2.Nikola Tesla Museum
Dedicated to the life and work of Nikola Tesla, the museum aims to honor and showcase Tesla's final resting place. The museum contains more than 160,000 original documents, more than 2,000 books and magazines, more than 1,200 historical technical exhibits, more than 1,500 photographs and photographic plates of original technical objects, tools and apparatus, and more than 1,000 plans and drawings. Very little is on display in the small exhibition space on the ground floor. The Nikola Tesla Archive was included in the UNESCO Memory of the World Program Register in 2003 for its critical role in the world's history of electrification and future technological developments in this field.
3.Manufaktura Restaurant Belgrade
You should probably be pretty hungry now; especially if all you have for breakfast is peccara snacks! We highly recommend dining at Manufaktura, one of the favorite Serbian restaurants in Belgrade. The restaurant is located in the Old Town just off Knez Mihailova, Belgrade's main pedestrian street, and the food is truly delicious. We definitely recommend you to try the Fruska Gora cheese plate consisting of local fresh cheeses, ajvar, stuffed red peppers and local white wine! Additionally, you can try local delicacies. We especially recommend you to try the meatballs.
4.National Museum of Belgrade
The Belgrade National Museum, which was closed for several years, is now completely renovated and ready for visitors! Located in the center of the city, this magnificent museum hosts important works covering a wide period of time, from ancient times to the modern period. The museum's extensive collection includes ancient sculptures, works from the Byzantine and Ottoman periods, and examples of Christian and Medieval art. Belgrade National Museum offers a rich selection of exhibitions focusing particularly on Serbian culture and history. Visitors encounter many artifacts reflecting important historical events, famous personalities and traditional lifestyle of Serbia. The museum also has a valuable collection where you can watch the development of Serbian painting. The renovated sections of the museum are enriched with interactive exhibits and informative guides, offering visitors an in-depth look at Serbian history and culture. In addition, the historical artifacts and statues in the garden of the museum provide a great atmosphere for visitors to relax and watch the surroundings.
