1. Diyarbakir Walls
The Diyarbakır Walls, which began construction in the 4th century BC, were completed during the Roman Empire period. Built from stone and brick, these walls were originally constructed for defensive purposes.
Stretching approximately 5.8 kilometers, the Diyarbakır Walls are among the longest city walls in the world. They rise to about 10 meters in height.
Due to their location in a region that has been ruled by various civilizations, the walls hold significant historical importance. They have undergone numerous repairs and modifications during the Roman, Byzantine, Umayyad, Abbasid, and Seljuk periods.
One of the most distinctive features of the walls is the 82 towers, which were used for defense and enhanced the strength of the surrounding fortifications. Additionally, the walls feature high, protected walkways on their inner side.
2. Diyarbakir Grand Mosque
The Diyarbakır Ulu Mosque, whose history dates back to 639 AD, was constructed following the spread of Islam into the region. The mosque was completed during the Umayyad period (661-750) and has undergone various restorations and repairs over the centuries.
Architecturally, the Diyarbakır Ulu Mosque is designed in a simple yet impressive style. It features a rectangular plan with a large courtyard and a distinctive mihrab section. The mihrab, which is the most striking feature of the mosque, is a three-tiered structure adorned with intricate decorations. The minaret of the mosque is made of cut stone and exhibits an elegant design.
The interior decoration of the mosque is designed in a simple and elegant manner. The wall decorations are subtly crafted, and a minimalist style is used to emphasize the mosque's historical character.
3. Evar
