Helsinki, the quiet and introverted capital of Finland, is often overlooked compared to other Scandinavian capitals. But lately this beautiful city has been attracting more and more visitors. With its modern design, distinctive architecture, street cafes and copper parks, Helsinki is overflowing with the energy of young people. The city is quite compact, so you can visit all the major attractions of Helsinki in one day. Here are the best ways to spend a day in Helsinki!

🚗 Day 1 - 14 stops

  1. Cafe Regatta

You can start your Helsinki tour by starting the day with a delicious breakfast in one of Helsinki's most popular cafes. Cafe Regatta is a lovely cafe located in a traditional red wooden hut. It is located in a very peaceful and idyllic park by the sea. The coffee served here is great and you can try traditional Finnish delicacies such as Karelian pie, cinnamon buns, egg butter (munavoi) and blueberry pie.

  1. Sibelius Monument

Continue walking through the City Park to reach the famous Sibelius Monument. This monument is an abstract artwork dedicated to Finland's best-known composer, Jean Sibelius. The Sibelius Monument is a structure consisting of 600 monolithic steel tubes that form a wave-like pattern in the air. The monument was created by artist Eila Hiltunen in 1967. Although Sibelius was criticized by much of the public for not composing organ music, the monument still serves to commemorate him with great respect and admiration. Next to the monument you can also see the bust of the composer, which was added to silence critics.

  1. Temppeliaukio Church or Rock Church

Helsinki Rock Church (Temppeliaukio Kirkko) is one of the must-see places of the city. Its most striking feature is that the church is carved into the granite bedrock located in the center of Helsinki. The church was designed in 1961 by brothers Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen for an architectural competition and was consecrated in 1969. Although it was subject to some criticism at first, it quickly won people's love and was highly appreciated by the Finnish people. It differs from other traditional churches with its simplicity and unique architecture. The Rock Church now also serves as a popular concert venue thanks to its excellent acoustics. The church is open every day but visiting hours may vary, so it's a good idea to check the website before you go. The entrance fee is 5 EUR.

  1. Kamppi Chapel

Just outside the Kamppi Center in Helsinki city centre, stands an oval-shaped wooden structure notable for its shiny copper exterior, making a distinctive contribution to the cityscape. Here is located the Kamppi Chapel of Silence, a Lutheran church built with a minimalist design reflecting Scandinavian architecture. The chapel is open to visitors of all backgrounds and beliefs, right in the middle of the vibrant city centre. Stepping inside, you can feel the sense of peace in the main hall. The best thing is that entrance to the Kamppi Chapel of Silence is free.

  1. Helsinki Central Station

Helsinki Central Station is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful train stations in the world and a must-visit destination quickly. This station, a prime example of Finnish Art Nouveau architecture, was designed by Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen. Helsinki Central Station, which is the center of transportation in Finland, is one of the most popular and visited structures in the country. The station's most notable features include the clock tower and four stone man statues. These statues have become so iconic that they are used as mascots by the Finnish railway company and even appear in rap song commercials.

  1. Aleksanterinkatu Street

Helsinki's oldest street, Aleksanterinkatu, is the city's main commercial center and is also home to many important institutions, landmarks and plenty of restaurants and bars. An ideal place for shopping, Aleksanterinkatu is teeming with locals and tourists and offers a lively atmosphere. You can also buy local souvenirs here, such as a puukko knife or a Marimekko bag.
