After the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus, Famagusta was abandoned and turned into a ghost town, now imbued with a melancholic history and mysterious atmosphere. Once filled with joy and laughter, this place is now covered in a sorrowful silence. Although entry to Famagusta is restricted, some parts of the city are open to tourists. Visitors can explore the cityâs streets, view the abandoned buildings, and see the empty beaches through guided tours. Despite its sorrowful past, Famagusta has a mesmerizing atmosphere.
